Famous Potato Heads Are Sprouting UP Everywhere!
The other day I was searching on Amazon for Mr. Potato Head Ghosts for a Halloween Article I was writing. Up popped an Elvis Mr. Potato Head. To say I was "stunned" is an understatement. I shared my ghostly Potato Head sighting with a few friends and one responded, "We just cannot let some people die." To say I was "stunned" is an understatement, again!
Mr. Potato Head Toys have been a classic for decades. I remember having one when I was a child in the 1950s. We just cannot let iconic toys (or famous people) die, can we?
I wonder what famous potato head will sprout up next? Mr. Peanut Head? (see Image information below to read the joke caption for the image shown to the left!) I guess that Mr. Potato Head wants some plastic surgery! Get it? Please, do not throw any rotten vegetables at me.

Who Nose Will Be Next on a Potato?
Can you think of a new celebrity who could be on a Mr. Potato Head?
If you start out with the basic Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head kits and order the "bucket of parts" you could feasibly come up with a new celebrity iconic toy.
How could one make a potato head tribute to "Michael Jackson"? Get the appropriate arm piece, put glue on the glove and dip the hand in sliver glitter. Find a black hat and decorate it up. What shoes would you use and how would you decorate them?
John Lennon could also be a candidate for "we just won't let them die" personality. Bet you could fashion some wire-rimmed glasses to fit on a potato head. I think I have seen a "classic Roman/Greek looking nose that would work. If you have some glue and l brown yarn, you could could make a Beatles wig.

The Commercial History of Mr. Potato Head - Mr. Potato Head was the first toy to be advertized on TV!
I am a Babyboomer and I remember having a Mr. Potato Head as a child. The toy has sprouted big time over the decades and has grown into an icon. Kind of like the Cozy Coupe, the toy has basically stayed the same shape, but has been updated to appeal to all ages. The first Hasbro Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head toy used real potatoes and had cars and trailers and cosmetics.
The 1970s commercial featured a Life-size Mr. Potato Head who shows some children the new kits that featured Bozo the Clown and Donald Duck. I also think the commercial was trying to show the educational features of the Potato Head: learning where the parts of the face and head go! Sounds simple, but remember playing that kind of game with toddlers? Many of today's geniuses probably played and learned with Hasbro!
In the 80s, there was born the "Super Mr. Potato Head"! Oh, not as in Superman, but as in more pieces.

In 2012, Mr. Potato Head turned 60 and CBS did a short feature on the morning news about the famous spud. I learned many interesting facts about this iconic toy is a best seller all over the world. If you do not want to watch the above commercials, you must see this story by CBS. Only 4 minutes with teach you a lot about this 'tater.
You might have to watch a commercial with William Shatner, but do not be alarmed. That commercial is kind of appropriate since there are Star Trek Potato Head Characters. Yes, that is a link to Amazon if you want to see the Star Trek collectible toys.

Elvis (Potato Head) Sightings on Amazon! - The Spud King
You could probably use these Potato Heads for Halloween Decor because it is a dead celebrity. I know, not funny.
Elvis is one celebrity that fans will not let die. I even have a few collectibles in my home that were inherited from a relative. I was more of a Beatles fan, myself.
I personally like the '68 Elvis as he was certainly influenced by the early Beatles, don't you think?
No matter what you think, this Elvis collectible would make a terrific gift for that fan of the King.
My husband and I tried to think of passed celebrities who might be considered by Hasbro as the next collectible Potato Head Toy. We thought Marilyn Monroe might be among those who could be considered.
